Badgerwood
We worked with Sudeley Estate to secure planning permission for a contemporary replacement dwelling at Badgerwood, Winchcombe. The site comprised a derelict former cottage located within the Cotswolds AONB and outside the defined settlement boundary, presenting a number of planning constraints.
The proposal replaced the existing ruin with a high quality contemporary dwelling, designed by Fleming Architects Ltd, taking a considered approach to design in the context of the AONB landscape. It was concluded that a contemporary approach would be more appropriate than a traditional pastiche solution, ensuring the development responded to modern design standards while respecting the character of the landscape. The scheme also incorporated high standards of sustainable construction and energy efficiency and carefully integrated the retained elements of the original cottage, resulting in a successful planning outcome.

The design approach has sought to retain elements of the former cottage as a nod to the past, but blended this with a contemporary and sympathetic new dwelling, within this highly constrained area of the Cotswolds AONB and overlooking the nationally important Grade I Listed Sudeley Castle and its associated historic park and gardens.
